Today we're proud to recognize Paramedic Lead and Field Training Officer Eric Bjugstad on earning his Certified Wilderness Paramedic (WP-C) credential.
This nationally recognized certification reflects advanced knowledge and decision-making in the unique challenges of wilderness and prolonged patient care - skills that are especially valuable here in Cook County.
While serving one of Minnesota's most remote and geographically diverse counties, our crews respond far beyond traditional roadways. Whether it's on hiking trails, deep in the Superior National Forest, in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, on Lake Superior, or at remote fly-in locations, reaching a patient can require hiking, paddling, boating, or coordinating with aircraft. In many situations, treatment, extrication, and transport may take hours rather than minutes.
Eric's achievement strengthens our team's ability to provide exceptional care in these environments. It also reflects North Shore Health EMS's continued commitment to investing in advanced education and specialized training that directly benefits our patients, visitors, and community.
In addition to serving as our Paramedic Lead and Field Training Officer, Eric is an active member of the Cook County Search and Rescue Team, bringing his expertise to some of the most challenging incidents our region can present.
