North Shore Health (NSH) has a proud history of displaying the creative work of local artists in their public areas. Since the program began in 2020, it has displayed new local works of art every 4 months in its rotating show.

“We thank all the artists whose work has adorned our walls. We are excited to see this art program expand and flourish with each new showing,” said Kimber Wraalstad, NSH CEO. A Call for Artists goes out three times a year and more information about works of art, exhibits, and submissions can be found below

Accepted Works of Art & Exhibit Details

The art can be paintings, fiber, photography, mosaic, sculpture, woodwork and mixed media; essentially artwork that can be displayed on walls or atop pedestals. The art will be displayed in the lobbies, hallways and other public areas of NSH. There are over 300 lineal feet of various spaces available, allowing artists to submit multiple pieces to be displayed.

The works of art should reflect and celebrate aspects of the cultural, historical, geographical, or community attributes of Cook County and/or the North Shore. Selected art will be placed in areas of high profile to be viewed and enjoyed by visitors, patients, residents and employees of NSH. Art submissions should encourage a feeling of peace and nature consistent with an ambience of quiet reflection in a health care delivery environment.

Eligibility

The Request for Submission is open to local artists working in any suitable media, subject to the constraints imposed by ability to properly display the art.

Selection Process

The Art Selection Committee will review and recommend successful “Requests for Submissions” to NSH. Artists may be asked to make a presentation to the Selection Committee about the proposed art for the site, including visual representations, materials to be used, size, weight, installation specifications and methods, maintenance requirements, and other issues that are relevant to the successful use of the art selected.

Ownership and Use

Selected art will remain the property of each artist. The art will be displayed for a period of 4 months. If the artist wishes, NSH will identify the work of art as available for purchase at a price suggested by the artist. Each artwork will include a descriptive placard indicating availability and price (if applicable), to be purchased from the artist. If there is interest in purchasing a work of art, prospective buyers may contact the artists directly to negotiate the purchase. NSH will not charge or receive a commission on the sale of any work of art included in this exhibit. NSH will not be responsible or liable for the loss, damage or destruction of art provided pursuant to this request, unless the loss, damage or destruction is caused by the gross negligence of NSH. In that event, loss shall not exceed five hundred dollars. Continual Refreshing of Art: It is the intention, but not the obligation of NSH to change the art approximately every four (4) months.
