Summer has brought plenty of fun, laughter, and opportunities for our residents to enjoy the great outdoors. Over the past few months, we have made the most of the beautiful weather and scenery that surround us here on the North Shore. Our residents have enjoyed several outings and activities that gave everyone a chance to get out and enjoy the community.
A Scenic Drive Along the North Shore
Residents recently enjoyed a scenic bus tour along the North Shore, thanks to Arrowhead Transportation and their largest bus. The bus accommodated four residents in wheelchairs along with six additional residents in bus seats.
To make the outing even more interactive, residents participated in a scavenger hunt, keeping their eyes open for different types of scenery, animals, and even a tourist or two “out in the wild”! We enjoyed donuts from World’s Best and a beautiful ride with our wonderful bus driver, Paul. Our adventure took us to the lookout above Cut Face Creek, down to the harbor, and up Croftville Road as residents worked together to check items off their scavenger hunt lists.
Fisherman’s Picnic
Residents also had the opportunity to get out and enjoy Grand Marais’s annual Fisherman’s Picnic. We listened to The Portage Band perform at Harbor Park before heading over to The Hub for a delicious lunch.
The Care Center also hosted its own picnic on the patio. Residents enjoyed fishburgers prepared by the Grand Marais Lions Club , listened to music, and played some lawn games. After lunch, residents who wished to attend headed down to the corner of Broadway to enjoy the Fisherman’s Picnic Parade.
We had a wonderful time watching the creative floats go by and, of course, catching some of the candy that was flying through the air! We even saw some familiar faces from North Shore Health, as two of our residents got the opportunity to ride in the passenger seat of the ambulance alongside some of our great EMTs.
An Afternoon at the Theatre
Most recently, residents and staff attended the final matinee performance of As You Like It at the Grand Marais Playhouse. We walked over and pushed some wheelchairs so we could be treated to front-row seats for a wonderful performance by talented members of our community.
Residents laughed, smiled, and even danced throughout the performance. Everyone enjoyed the chance to get dressed up, head out on the town, and experience the theatre together.
We are so grateful for all of the wonderful opportunities our community provides for our residents. We look forward to more adventures and outings, we can’t wait to see what the next show at the theatre has in store!
