North Shore Living

Sorry for the wait, we have been busy here at the care center over the past few months, hosting a series of joyful events that have brought together residents, families, and local groups.

In February, we partnered with Bethlehem Lutheran Church to host a Valentine’s Bingo Party that was very fun and engaging. The event drew an impressive turnout, filling the room with laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of Valentine’s cheer. Residents and guests alike enjoyed an afternoon of games, prizes, treats and connection.

March brought even more excitement with a festive St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Residents were treated to live Irish music from Tom Novotny, creating a joyful atmosphere that had many tapping their feet and even dancing along. The celebration was a highlight of the month, offering both entertainment and a chance to see a familiar face in Tom as he was not able to come the Friday before due to the snow storm. We love his music on Fridays, without his live music that Friday we had our usual happy hour and it did give us a chance to use our karaoke machine, residents and staff got up to sing a few songs throughout the happy hour!

Music continues to play an important role at the Care Center thanks to the Grand Portage Band, who have been visiting monthly as part of their ongoing commitment to the community. Their performances have become a cherished tradition, consistently getting residents up and dancing while lifting spirits throughout the building.

In April, the Care Center welcomed families and friends for a special Easter celebration. The gathering provided an opportunity for loved ones to come together, share a meal, and celebrate the season in a warm and welcoming environment.

Adding to the month’s highlights, a group of 4th grade students from the local elementary school recently visited to perform songs for the residents. Their performance was met with smiles and applause, as the young singers brought joy and even some tears to some in the crowd.

We will also be hosting a special Volunteers Appreciation Lunch on Friday April 24th at 1pm where residents and volunteers plan to enjoy some food, beverages, and conversation before Tom plays some live music at 2pm. Our volunteer’s time, kindness, and dedication make such a difference here, and we are truly grateful for all they do.

With each event, the residents and staff at the care center enjoy having community members, family, and friends join in any way they would like. If you are interested in volunteering, feel free to reach out to me!
